Mai hun ik udta robot doraemon
Mai hun ik udta robot doraemon…

As a child it was obvious, but even now when I hear the above lines, I rush to have a good seat on the sofa, my hands loaded with a bunch of chocolate cookies, increase the volume of my TV and enjoy myself for an hour or two until this horrible thing pops up in my mind that I forgot to write the history notes! I get that much immersed in my all-time favourite cartoon - DORAEMON!
Penned by Fujiko Fujio and originally ran on August 8th 1969, Doraemon is a Japanese manga series. It’s main character is Doraemon, who is a robotic cat who had come from the 22nd century to aid a kid named Nobita Nobi. They share a very special bonding.

Although Nobita is very poor at sports and studies (at the same time a world champion at shooting, cat’s cradle and sleeping!) but what I like about him is that he is a very kind hearted person, he is always ready to help other people in times of need.

Shizuka Minamoto is another main character of the cartoon who is determined, smart, good at her studies and a very optimistic person.

I think of Gian (real name is Takeshi Goda) as a big pineapple who may be tough to deal with and often seen as a cruel boy as he beats poor Nobita badly but he is very emotional and caring at heart. He helps out his younger sister Jaiko (who aspires to be a cartoonist) when she doesn’t get any idea about her upcoming comic book.

Well the most interesting character is Suneo Honekawa. I am a fan of his cuteness and cunningness, the way he butters Gian. The 11-year old has a bad habit of flaunting his riches to his friends. He is two-faced and good at fooling others but like Gian, he is also a nice person at heart.

Apart from the 1,787 amazing episodes, a lot of movies have also been loved by the viewers of this cartoon. My favourite being “Nobita and the New Steel Troops-Winged Angels” and “Nobita in the South Seas.”

As for me, I remember getting mad for Doraemon as a kid. I would sit on exactly the middle seat of the sofa at five minutes to 7, held my pink Barbie doll in one hand and got lost in the cartoon world for just an hour. And not just me, Doraemon has bought great pleasure and a smile to millions of people regardless of their ages.
