8 Days in the God’s own Country…

So, last year, after a long debate about where should we go in Christmas, we finally decided to go to Kerala. Unlike our previous trips, this time I decided to keep a ‘travel diary’ with me just to jot down the names of all the places where we went and the amazing experience that we had. I would love to share what all I wrote in my diary about the breathtaking trip to Kerala.

Day 1

21 December 2019

Here am I diary writing to you, sitting comfortably on the window seat of the plane. Yes of course, I am feeling very excited about the memorable journey ahead. I must tell you what a hectic morning it was! Packing everything, to be on time etc etc…But finally we’re sitting on a Vistara flight. I really want to check out the amazing and unforgettable state of Kerala. I have written enough for now as I have to read my novel and also glue my eyes to the amazing scenic beauty of the clouds above. Can’t believe we are flying at 30,000 ft!!!

Day 2

22 December 2019

So we arrived at Kochi at 7 something in the evening. It was somewhat difficult to spend those 3 hours in the plane. We were really tired by the journey. The moment we entered our hotel room, we straightway crashed into the bed. After getting ready the next day, we left for a hill station named  Munnar. It was such a long trip! I got bored so I first read some pages of my novel, then listened to my favorite numbers and took a glance of the ongoing cricket match highlights. After reaching our Munnar hotel, we relaxed for some time and then went to an adventurous jeep safari. We explored the Ripple waterfall and it was glinting under the bright sun. I even saw a vibrant rainbow there! Next on, we went to the ‘hanging bridge’ and then a beautiful dam. At last we came at the peak of a mountain and stared at the mesmerizing sundown. Then we came back and chilled in the hotel.

Day 3

23 December 2019

Today we explored the rest of Munnar. First we went to the Madupetty Dam. After that we went to the Echo point and did some shopping there. Next, we clicked some photos at the tea plantations. Much to our disappointment, the tea factory was closed. At last we went to the Rajmalai National Park which was a very calm and peaceful spot. We will leave Munnar tomorrow morning.

Day 4

24 December 2019

By afternoon, we reached Thekaddy. Our Thekaddy hotel is very luxurious and so far the nicest one. We went to see the Periyar Tiger Reserve and planned to do some boating there. But unluckily, the boat tickets were the toast of Thekaddy. We waited for a long time in the queue but still couldn’t get the tickets! We decided to book the tickets at 5am the next daybreak. Apart from that, in the evening we went to watch the famous martial art of Kerela – Kalaripattu program. It was very fascinating. In a nutshell, this evening was a fruitful one.

Day 5

25 December 2019

Merry Christmas diary! So today, we were up by 4:30 am. I was very unsure about whether we would be able to get the tickets or not. But fortuitously, this time we got them!!!I looked at the gleaming water of the Periyar lake as our ferry boat made its way through it. We came back at quarter to ten and had some dosas with vada pav. Then we got ready and left for Aleppey. Our hotel faced the shimmering back waters. We all loved to sit in the balcony and staring at the wonderful combination of the sky and waters before us. In the afternoon we did some boating on a shikara.

Day 6

26 December 2019

Today we left for my most awaited place – Kovalam! On our way, we stopped at the Varkale beach and had lunch there in one of the shacks. After reaching our hotel late evening, we went to take a stroll at the nearby Kovalam beach. I saw the endless sea on one side and markets lining the way the other side. Digging in the sand, getting hit by the dancing waves of the sea or just sitting there feeling the cool breeze blowing…the fun and the liveliness by the beaches cannot be found in mountains or cities. That’s why I love beaches!!

Day 7

27 December 2019

We went to Poovar and went to its island beach (called ‘Golden beach’) by a boat. It was so very sunny out there! We had some pineapple, raw mango and nimbu soda. Next on we went to the Travancore Place Museum and Travancore Art Gallery which had some paintings and arms and ammunitions of the late Maharajas. We came back and were very exhausted.

Day 8

28 December 2019

So diary here am I again writing to you and sitting…on the Spicejet plane this time and on the window seat as always. My trip has been amazing and I have enjoyed myself thoroughly in Kerala. People’s motto here is – Simplicity. Kerala has a rich heritage and culture. I can’t believe that we are flying back to the ever-cold and polluted New Delhi. I am going to miss the state very much. Looking forward to more trips with you diary… bye!

So those were my 8 days in the God’s own country. My experience was very nice and I am glad that I got to meet new people. I strongly suggest that if you’re planning a trip which is peaceful and refreshing then you have to check out the incredible state of Kerala.
